How much do casement windows cost in Ireland supplied and fitted?
A white A-rated double-glazed uPVC casement window costs €350 to €850 supplied and fitted. Colour-foiled or triple-glazed (0.8 W/m²K) uPVC casements cost €550 to €1,100, flush sash casements cost €750 to €1,300, thermally broken aluminium casements cost €700 to €1,550, and timber-alu-clad casements cost €1,100 to €1,950 per window.
How much does it cost to replace all casement windows in a 3-bed semi?
For a typical Irish 3-bed semi-detached house (8 to 10 casement windows), full replacement costs €4,500 to €8,800 in white uPVC, €6,800 to €11,500 in flush sash casements, or €9,000 to €15,500 in thermally broken aluminium. If the home qualifies for the €3,000 SEAI Windows Grant, subtract €3,000 from those totals.
What is a casement window?
A casement window is a window whose opening sash is attached to the outer frame by side-mounted or top-mounted friction hinges (stays) and swings outwards when you turn the handle. It is the most weather-tight and popular window style in Ireland because wind blowing against the glass presses the sash tighter onto its twin compression gaskets.
What is the difference between a standard casement and a flush casement window?
On a standard stormproof (lipped) casement window, the opening sash overlaps the outer frame by about 8mm to 10mm, creating a raised lip. On a flush casement window, the opening sash closes completely flush into the outer frame on one flat plane, replicating traditional 19th- and 20th-century timber joinery.
Is there an SEAI grant for replacing casement windows in 2026?
Yes. Under the SEAI Better Energy Homes scheme and One Stop Shop upgrades, pre-2011 homes can receive €4,000 (detached), €3,000 (semi-D or end-terrace), €1,800 (mid-terrace) or €1,500 (apartment) when replacing old windows with new units rated Uw ≤ 1.4 W/m²K as part of a whole-house Heat Loss Indicator improvement.
Do bedroom casement windows need fire-escape hinges in Ireland?
Yes. Under Technical Guidance Document B (Fire Safety), every habitable room without direct ground-floor escape should have an emergency egress window providing an unobstructed opening of at least 0.33 m², at least 450mm high and 450mm wide, with the bottom cill between 800mm and 1,100mm above the bedroom floor.
How messy is replacing casement windows in a lived-in house?
Experienced fitters work room by room using dust sheets, removing the old window and fitting, foaming and trimming the new casement unit before moving to the next opening — so your home is never left open overnight and a 10-window semi-detached house is finished in 2 days.
What is the difference between double and triple glazing on casement windows?
Double glazing (28mm unit) reaches Uw 1.2–1.4 W/m²K. Triple glazing (36mm–44mm unit with two low-E coatings and two argon cavities) drops heat loss to Uw 0.8–1.0 W/m²K, cuts traffic noise and eliminates cold downdraughts beside sofas and beds.
Can I have grey or sage green outside and white inside on uPVC casements?
Yes — dual-colour foiled uPVC and dual-colour powder-coated aluminium/aluclad let you pick Anthracite Grey, Agate Grey, Chartwell Green or Black Ash outside while keeping crisp smooth white on the room side.
Do new replacement windows need trickle vents in Ireland?
Under Irish Building Regulations Part F (Ventilation), replacement windows must maintain background ventilation unless your home has a commissioned Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) or demand-controlled ventilation system.
Why do upstairs bedroom windows need side-hung egress hinges instead of top-hung openings?
Side-hung egress friction hinges open to a full 90° clear doorway so an adult or firefighter can climb through in an emergency, whereas a top-hung sash blocks the top of the opening and a fixed central mullion narrows the width.
Are old windows and glass taken away for recycling?
Yes — full supply-and-fit quotes include removing and recycling all old timber, aluminium or uPVC frames and glass, plus making good the internal plaster reveals and external silicone/sand-and-cement pointing.
