Four rules your casement window upgrade must meet
- Built and occupied before 2011: The house must have been built and occupied before 1 January 2011 (measured by ESB MPRN connection date).
- Whole-window U-value ≤ 1.4 W/m²K: Every new casement window installed must achieve an NFRC/EN ISO 10077-1 certified whole-window U-value (Uw) of 1.4 W/m²K or lower.
- Full window replacement & HLI pass: You cannot claim the SEAI grant for changing just one or two windows while leaving old single or leaky double glazing in the rest of the house; post-works BER assessment must show the home achieves a B2 BER or passes the Heat Loss Indicator requirement.
- Grant approval before starting work: Never allow old windows to be ripped out before your SEAI Letter of Offer or One Stop Shop contract is issued.

Questions homeowners ask
Can I apply for the SEAI windows grant myself or do I need a One Stop Shop?
Both routes are available. See windowgrants.ie for the comparison between standalone SEAI window grant applications and One Stop Shop whole-house upgrades where the grant is deducted upfront.
Do roof windows or dormer windows count under the same SEAI grant?
Yes. When you replace all windows under the SEAI grant, every window in the thermal envelope—including casements, dormer windows and skylights—must be brought up to the required U-value threshold.
